College Board Recognizes New SpringBoard National Demonstration SchoolsMelissa Heinz, Director, SpringBoard
The College Board is proud to announce two new SpringBoard® National Demonstration Schools for English Language Arts. LJ Alleman Middle School (Lafayette Parish, LA) and Tillicum Middle School (Bellevue, WA) earned this recognition for demonstrating effective teaching practices and successful implementation of SpringBoard in the classroom. As part of this recognition, these schools will review new materials, participate in pilot opportunities, and be provided professional learning opportunities.
The review committee in charge of selecting the winners noted about LJ Alleman Middle School: “From the school culture to the student engagement and teacher commitment, [they] truly demonstrated excellence. These educators encourage students to take a more active role in their learning. And that creates an environment in which they can thrive.”
About Tillicum Middle School, the committee noted the school “provides challenging coursework and creates an environment for all students to succeed. Collaboration and high expectations for all students are hallmarks of this school that result in student achievement.”
These schools will join the nine others that now serve as SpringBoard National Demonstration Schools and model sites for schools throughout the country. The complete list of National Demonstration Schools includes:

We look forward to strengthening our partnership and working with our Demonstration Schools to enhance educational opportunities for their students,” said Auditi Chakravarty, vice president of SpringBoard and Pre-AP® Programs at the College Board.
Teachers established a strong professional learning community within these schools, so they and their peers can learn from collective experiences and share best practices. As part of the rigorous application process, the schools produced a brief video of SpringBoard in action, featuring student, teacher, and administrator interviews that highlight the benefits and successes achieved. Additional evaluation criteria included classroom walkthroughs, student and staff interviews, and a submission of student work, all reviewed by the SpringBoard National Demonstration School site selection team.
