#Collegiance Returns: Celebrate Students’ College Decision
#Collegiance Returns: Celebrate Students’ College DecisionAndrew Elwell, Associate Director of Communications, College Board
Each year, millions of high school students engage with the College Board on their road to college. Whether they’re connecting to scholarships with the PSAT/NMSQT, practicing for the SAT on Khan Academy, earning college credit with AP, or using BigFuture to explore colleges, the College Board plays an important role in that journey.
Deciding where to attend college is an important choice for students. As college acceptance letters roll in, students across the country have the opportunity to make that exciting decision. For many higher education institutions, May 1 is “Decision Day”: the day most high school students need to notify a college or university of their enrollment. Choosing a college is a significant moment for these students, as well as for the College Board’s K-12 and higher education members who get to celebrate this decision with them.
For the second year, the College Board is recognizing the hard work of these students with #Collegiance, a social media contest for students who pledge their collegiance in a creative and original way on Instagram. Between now and May 9, students can share their story with the hashtag #Collegiance to be entered into a contest for a chance to win a $5,000 grand prize or one of 11 other cash prizes. Submissions will be judged on creativity, enthusiasm, and overall quality by film and media professors from College Board member institutions.
Want to join the fun? There are several ways our members can get involved:
- Celebrate your students’ Collegiance announcement videos on your school’s social media feeds (Don’t forget the hashtag!)
- Colleges: Encourage the incoming class of 2020 to pledge their Collegiance to your school for a chance to win
- High Schools: Post Collegiance flyers around school and encourage students to share their college decision
- Host a Collegiance day
- Set up a Wall of Collegiance at your school so students can pledge
- Share a Throwback Thursday picture wearing your own college gear
We encourage you to share the contest with your students on social media. Feel free to use the following sample tweets or create your own!
