Each year, the Forum features a unique college fair in which counselors have an opportunity to meet with admission and financial aid officers from member colleges and universities across the world. Attendees are able to visit, ask questions, and build partnerships with representatives from a wide range of institutions.
Luis Narvaez, College Counseling Specialist from the Chicago Public Schools described the benefits of the College Fair. “It’s a laid-back atmosphere that presents a way for us to interact without parents or students around. It’s a non-threatening way to interact with college representatives,” he said. The College Fair is where counselors like him can get great information about college admissions and financial aid. Participants can get a clear picture of what many colleges offer in terms of scholarships.
“We have a retention issue with some of our students. Some of our low-income students sometimes drop out of college for financial reasons,” said Narvaez. The College Fair is where “we can find out about strategic scholarships that may not be well publicized elsewhere.”
