Name: William E. Harner, Ph.D.
Title: Superintendent of Schools
School: Quakertown Community School District
Why are you attending the AP® Annual Conference this year?
To gain a better understanding of the changes that will take place, and the direction in which AP is headed. I am also here to network with people I meet, talk to AP teachers from different states and take what I learn from them back home to work with my own faculty.
What is one thing you have learned so far?
I have learned more about the broad considerations for restructuring services and access to online opportunities. I see some great benefit to our students having access to formative assessments that are aligned to the AP curriculum. This will help us understand how well teachers are teaching the material and how well students are learning the material so we can gauge whether they’ll be successful on the exams.
What do you hope to bring back to your school?
A lot of lessons learned from the teachers, administrators and members of the College Board, including best practices that they’re finding helpful. Really, anything that will help us improve student learning.
