Registration Opens for First August SAT and SAT Subject Test Administration
Registration Opens for First August SAT and SAT Subject Test AdministrationMichael Preston, Associate Director, Communications
To better serve the needs of students on their path to college, the College Board will offer – for the first time – an August SAT® and SAT Subject Tests™ administration during the 2017-18 school year. Registration is now open and the administration will be offered on August 26, 2017. To accommodate the August testing date, the January administration of the SAT has been discontinued.
The decision to offer the August administration was made in close consultation with our members and the students we serve. Feedback to the proposed change from students, K–12 and higher education professionals, and test center supervisors was overwhelmingly positive. This shift will provide students with an earlier opportunity to take the SAT and the SAT Subject Tests before submitting college applications, and it will give them more time to focus on coursework, school activities, and college applications in the fall of their senior year. Students will also be able to use fee waivers from the current school year to register for the August SAT and SAT Subject Tests; they just need to get the completed first section of the waiver from their counselors before the school year ends.
The College Board will continue to work closely with counselors, test center supervisors, and college admissions officers to ensure that they are well prepared for the change and can continue to offer students guidance on when they should take the SAT and the SAT Subject Tests.
