The Results are In: Winners Selected for First College Board Opportunity Scholarships Drawing

Earlier this month, College Board conducted drawings for the first round of scholarship recipients.

Last October, College Board announced the launch of the College Board Opportunity Scholarships during an exclusive segment on Good Morning America and, in December, opened to students in the Class of 2020 with the first two of six scholarships: Build Your College List and Practice for the SAT®.

Earlier this month, College Board conducted drawings for the first round of scholarship recipients. Over 86,000 students have signed up for the program since the December launch.

There were 100 students selected for the January Build Your College List scholarships ($500 each), 57 of whom are lower-income students—totaling $28,500 for lower-income students. The Practice for the SAT® scholarship ($1,000 each) was awarded to 150 students, 90 of whom are lower-income students. That equals $90,000 for lower-income students!

Students shouldn’t worry if they didn’t receive a scholarship in January. There are still many opportunities to earn more scholarships.

Here’s what students can do next:

  • If they entered the Build Scholarship, they can update their list of six or more colleges for another entry in the February drawing.
  • If they entered the Practice Scholarship, they can continue to practice and earn an extra entry for every additional hour they practice (up to a total of 20 hours).
  • Don’t forget, when students practice for 12 or more hours and improve their SAT score by 100+ points—either from the PSAT/NMSQT to SAT or SAT to SAT—they’ll earn a chance at the $2,000 Improve Scholarship, which opens in April. The practice they do now will give them a head start!

The next Build and Practice Scholarships deadline is February 28th. Encourage students to continue taking important steps on the path to college!
