Nancy Barile, a high school English teacher at Revere High School in Revere, Massachusetts, and member of the College Board’s New England Regional Council wrote recently for the Huffington Post on her experience attending ‘One Day University’ with her students. The program brings together distinguished professors from across the country to present special versions of their lectures to promote lifelong learning.
For the first time ever, the College Board has released combined results from three of its programs – PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, and Advanced Placement Program® (AP®). The national and state-level results paint a more complete picture of student progress during high school, showing missed opportunities for just-graduated students and areas where action can be taken to improve student outcomes for those still in high school.
The 2014 Inside Higher Ed Survey of College and University Admissions Directors, released on Sept. 18, explores perspectives and opinions of campus admission and enrollment leaders on a range of issues. The results of the survey show that 91 percent of admission directors said that their institution favors the changes the College Board is making to the SAT®. A similar majority, 92 percent, said that their institution favors the College Board’s decision to revise the essay portion of the SAT.
The Council of Great City Schools presented Terry Grier, Superintendent of the Houston Independent School District and College Board Trustee with the 2014 Green-Garner Award, the nation's highest urban education honor recognizing outstanding contributions in urban education and named in memory of urban school leaders Richard R. For the first time since its inception in 2002, two districts were selected to win the Broad Prize for Urban Education: Gwinnett County Public Schools (GA) and Orange County Public Schools (FL). The $1 million prize is awarded each year to districts that make the greatest strides in improving academic achievement and closing the achievement gap for minority and low-income students.
