On Test Day

Step-by-step instructions for administering the PSAT/NMSAT are available in the PSAT/NMSQT Supervisor's Manual. They include:

  • The directions proctors must read — without deviation — to students
  • A standard section timing chart

Details on procedures to be followed before, during, and after the PSAT/NMSQT administration as well as the test day script can be found in the PSAT/NMSQT Supervisor's Manual (.pdf/1.3MB).

Administering the PSAT/NMSQT with Accommodations

The PSAT/NMSQT Supervisor's Manual also includes instructions for proctors administering the exam to students with disabilities who have been approved by the College Board to test with accommodations. You’ll find a section timing chart for extended time testing.

If students use accommodations without College Board approval, their test scores will be canceled. Get more information on administering the PSAT/NMSQT with accommodations.

Test Day Problems and School Closings

If you encounter problems on test day, refer to the Supervisor’s Manual for detailed instructions and a copy of the Supervisor’s Irregularity Report. Irregularities can be environmental or involve mistiming, student behavior, or test materials.

Schools that close on their registered test day due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather or building disruptions, widespread illness, etc., should contact the PSAT/NMSQT program by 3 p.m. EST Friday, October 18 2014, or as soon as possible, to make other testing arrangements.
